Under besöket ska Obama och regeringen bland annat diskutera förhandlingarna om ett frihandelsavtal mellan EU och USA, klimat- och energifrågor och diverse utrikespolitiska frågor. Mark Klamberg hoppas att parterna också kan diskutera terrorbekämpning baserad på ”the rule of law”:
“Mr President, as the leader of the free world you are very welcome to Stockholm! We appreciate your engagement with other countries and people based on common and universal values. In Sweden we had in 2008 a similar debate on electronic surveillance as you have now. I hope that you can discuss with the Swedish Government how the legitimate struggle against terrorism may be conducted based on transparency, the rule of law and subject to a serious discussion with us, the citizens. Please treat terrorism primarily as a matter for law-enforcement agencies and mutual cooperation between states and not as a matter of war.

Amerikanska ambassaden skriver inför besöket att Sverige ”is a close friend and partner to the United States”:
“Sweden plays a key leadership role on the international stage, including in opening new trade and investment opportunities through the U.S.-EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, advancing clean technologies, and promoting environmental sustainability.”
President Obama besöker Stockholm under onsdagen och torsdagen. En presskonferens kommer att hållas efter mötet i Rosenbad.
