Legal Counsel to Storytel Publishing
Storytel is Northern Europe's largest audiobook streaming service. We offer thousands of audiobooks and ebooks to customers in twelve markets, with several new markets launching in the coming year. We are now looking to strengthen our team by adding an in house counsel dedicated mainly to the publishing division within Storytel.
Role and responsibilities
As Storytel’s Publishing Counsel, you will be the main legal support function for our digital publishing and rights management teams and report to Storytels General Counsel. As such you will be working globally with our agreements and with intellectual property rights management issues for the Storytel group. Main tasks include assisting our rights teams in negotiating, drafting and reviewing agreements regarding publishing, content acquisition and new format deals (including film and TV). Additionally you will assist in Storytels work towards growing our licensed rights catalogue and in creating new and creative partnerships with other publishers, platforms and producers. You will also assist in general rights related matters, legal investigations, infringement situations, disputes and in monitoring current intellectual property related issues for the group on both a national and global level.
About Storytels Legal Department and Storytel Publishing
With the addition of the new position as Storytel Publishing Counsel, the Storytel Legal department will consist of four full time lawyers all situated in Stockholm. Storytel Publishing is the direct publishing part of Storytel, spanning over thirteen different markets where we license, produce and commission our inhouse publishing.
- Swedish L.LM. (Jur. kand.) or an international law degree of equivalent standard
- 4-5 years of demonstrable relevant working experience from rights work within the media business
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish, English and preferably one or two other languages
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills
Additionally and apart from a passion for stories and audiobooks, you are sociable, responsible and driven. Experience with negotiating and drafting agreements regarding audio-visual rights (TV and film) it is a very big plus.
As part of both the Legal department and the Rights Management team a candidate for this position must have the ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet all relevant deadlines. Strong business judgement, ability to think strategically and give practical advice constitute basic requirements.
